Create class size definitions

System administrators can create class size definitions to define the maximum number of students that can be enrolled in sections for a range of grade levels. Then, while building the master schedule, use the Class Size Summary to view any sections that have exceeded the class size definition.

To create class size definitions:

  1. Log on to the District view.
  2. Click the Schedule tab.
  3. Click the Class Size Definition side-tab.
  4. On the Options menu, click Add. The New Class Size Definition page appears.
  5. In the Name field, type a name for the class size.
  6. At the School Year field, click Search icon. to select the school year the class size definition is valid for.
  7. At the Procedure > Name field, click Search icon. to select the procedure your district uses to calculate and display the class size definition summary. Aspen provides the standard class size definition procedure, Standard Class Size Summary.
  8. Click Add to define a grade level.
  9. Click the GrdStart drop-down to select the starting grade level. Then click the GrdEnd drop-down to select the ending grade level.
  10. In the Class Size Cap column, type the maximum number of students in a course section in the grade level range.
  11. Click Save.

Use the Class Size Summary side-tabs to view the scheduled sections. Any sections that exceed the class size definition appear in red.
